Mix Feeder
The Mullerup

Individual feeding
Mix Feeder is a system with a rail-mounted feeder
driven by batteries or a combination of batteries and power rails. The
feeder fully automatically carries out these functions;
The principle behind the Mix Feeder
system is that the animals can be
divided into feeding groups that are allocated their own individually
composed mixed ration of feed. A feeding plan is drawn up for each group
of animals (milking cows, high and low yielders, heifers, dry cows,
etc.) to be fed their specified feed composition. For each group the
feeding plan and the number of animals in the group are entered into the
computer. Then the Mix Feeder control system manages the rest.
Mix Feeder loads automatically from different hoppers. Individual
feed adjustment is thus possible as often as required. After
automatically weighing-in the individual feed types, the feeder mixes
itself the feed with a patented mixer for approx. five minutes. Filling
the system hoppers is a simple process and all groups can be fed as you
like it - without any extra workload.
Fresh feed
As long as the feed types are kept separate, they stay fresh for a
long time. When mixed, a fermentation process starts. Especially in the
summer many farmers find it difficult to prevent heat developing in the
roughage, when the feed mix stays the whole day in the feeder or in a half
meter high heap on the feeding table. Research shows that a temperature
increase of a few degrees reduces the energy value by 10-15%. The
Mix Feeder weighs-in and mixes the individual feed types immediately before
feeding. Most farmers do also choose to mix feed 4-6 times daily for
each feeding group, so only a small quantity of freshly mixed feed is
fed each feeding time. All this contributes to a significantly higher ad
lib feeding and increases the animals' roughage feed intake.
Better feed efficiency
Different groups of animals
have of course different physiological feeding needs. Especially during
growth and lactation periods a correct composition is crucial for a
higher feed intake and yield - also here Mix Feeder makes a difference.
The system enables you to optimise and dispense the correct and exact
mix of fresh feed to each group accommodating their specific needs -
this results in direct feed cost savings. With the
Mix Feeder a feed
utilization approaching 90% is not unrealistic.
Improved milk quality
Feeding with
Mix Feeder means a
clean feeding table. No soil from tractor wheels to contaminate the feed
reduces the risk of high spore counts.
Feeding table
The size of the feeder makes it
very flexible. A narrow feeding table only 2 m wide is sufficient and that, of
course, reduces construction costs in new buildings. On the other hand,
the system can easily be integrated into the existing framework in
buildings with wide feeding tables. In most cases the entire unit can be
fed even though part of the unit is housed in old buildings with only
little room. Only the young calves are left to be manually in most
cases.
