HYDROFLEX SCRAPER SYSTEM FOR PERSTRUP FLOOR Reduction of ammonia evaporation is given high priority due to environmental concerns and to preserve nutrients. A possibility is a reduction of floor space with slats in cattle houses which will reduce evaporation by 10-45%, because the ammonia evaporation from the slat joists is high. Another possibility is quick separation of liquid manure combined with frequent scraping of the concrete floor. This option is likely to reduce ammonia evaporation by up to 40-50%. It is in this context that MULLERUP in close partnership with PERSTRUP BETON INDUSTRI and Danish Agricultural Advisory Service has developed a new scraper type that fits the new floor element from Perstrup. The concept is based on minimizing the time the manure is in contact with the air and consists of a floor element with drain channels and a scraper that quickly drains the liquid manure and scrapes the floor dry. The manure is pulled out from the house with the well-known MULLERUP hydraulic scraper Hydroflex that is equipped with a "finger", ensuring that the drain channels are free of manure at all times. The scraper finger is of plastic which ensures minimum wear on the floor. The floor is a moulded cast module floor with a slight downward slope towards the centre, narrow drain channels and a key surface. Together with the drain channels, the result is an incredibly dry and nonskid surface, benefitting the welfare of the animals.
